The Iranian brand to follow: VAQAR, beyond the Iranian borders

It’s in 2013 that the two self-taught designers based in Tehran, Shiva and Shirin decided to pursue their dream and create their ready-to-wear brand for women: VAQAR. Design has always been a passion for the Vaqar sisters who in three years have managed to conquer the hearts of the most influential personalities of fashion, from Karl Lagerfeld to Anna Wintour. The idea came from Shirin Vaqar, 27, who initially studied Visual Art. By uniting their strength, Shiva and her sister began to work together to achieve their fundamental goal, which they define as, “the development of the modern Man in the continuity of classical values”. They rapidly made a name for themselves in Iran and became a reference in the cutting-edge community of Tehran.

Thanks to their determination, the two sisters were the first Iranian fashion designers to be nominated among the 23 semi-finalists for the LVMH prize organized by the giant Louis Vuitton. It is during this third edition in 2016 that young designers have seduced the jury of experts who has not remained indifferent by their minimalist vision of fashion inspired above all by their Iranian culture.

Modernizing old clothes with minimal elements, Shirin and Shiva collections have a refined yet emotional style. Inspired by fashion icons such as Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo (Comme des Garçons), they create unique pieces for the strong and independent woman of tomorrow. Their collection has a universal appeal and as they say: “We love our culture, but when we create, we do not think it belongs to a certain place, we think it’s for everyone.

VAQAR will be in Paris from March 2sd to 8th at 236 rue Saint Martin
