Our favorite Iranian artist this month is definitely Hedieh Javanshir llchi. She explores the notion of duality through her artistic work: her painting are the great reflection of her double identity – the abstract artistic touch of Western culture with the Persian art and it’s “Tazhib” ornamentations – the art of illumination – are the perfect metaphor of the complex cultural duality.
Hedieh Javanshir llchi describes her paintings as shifts into “land, earth, and molten matter as it flows, coagulates, and fissures.” She was born in Tehran and living now in Washington. Her work has been exhibited in different cities like New York at The Shirin Gallery, Los Angeles or Brimingham among others.
We love the texture, the colors and all the way she plays tradition and modernity in her work.
